Colours Beyond Words – International Rett Art Initiative

Poster for “Colours Beyond Words” – International Rett Art Initiative, 12–13 October 2026, Veria, Greece

Reverse Rett Greece presents “Colours Beyond Words”, an international art initiative dedicated to the creativity, expression and different ways of communication of children and individuals living with Rett syndrome.

The first exhibition will take place on 12 & 13 October 2026 at Papatzikou art-gallery in Veria, Greece.

The initiative forms part of Reverse Rett Greece’s October 2026 Rett awareness campaign, in a year that marks 60 years since the first description of Rett syndrome in 1966.

Children and individuals living with Rett syndrome from Greece and around the world are invited to take part and express themselves through art — in whatever way is accessible and meaningful to them.

This is not a competition. Every artwork represents a different way of expressing, communicating and creating.

Artwork submission timeline

Preferred submission date: Sunday, 4 October 2026

To allow us enough time to review the submitted files and prepare each artwork for the exhibition with the care and quality it deserves, we kindly ask families to submit their artwork by 4 October 2026.

This is not a strict cut-off date. If an artwork reaches us a little later, including a day or two after this date, we will still do our best to include it in the exhibition.

Who can participate?

Children and individuals living with Rett syndrome, from Greece and abroad, can participate in the initiative, regardless of age or method of communication.

The artwork can be created in any way that is suitable for each individual: painting, handprints, collage, markers, eye-gaze, supported creativity, mixed media, or any other accessible form of artistic expression.

This is not a competition, and no previous artistic experience is required. Each artwork is unique and represents a different way of expressing, creating and communicating.

How to participate

Participation takes place online through the initiative’s dedicated submission form.

In the form, the parent or legal representative will provide the participant’s basic information, upload the artwork in digital format, and complete the required consent and permission for use.

The original artwork does not need to be sent.
The original remains with the creator and their family.

Reverse Rett Greece will use the digital file to produce the exhibition copy that will be presented at the exhibition and, in accordance with the participation terms, may become part of the “Colours Beyond Words” collection.

For a submission to be considered complete, the following must be submitted together:

  • the digital file of the artwork,
  • the participation details,
  • acceptance of the mandatory terms and the required consent.

Without completion of the required consent, the artwork cannot be presented publicly.
